Pandemonium (Delirium Series #2)

Pandemonium (Delirium Series #2) - My initial thoughts upon reading the first few chapters Pandemonium was confused – what’s going on? Where is Lena now? Who are all these people? Then I realize (duh!) that the chapters are organized into “then” – the period after Lena escaped into the Wilds – and “now” – the period she’s currently living. Phew. I’m pointing the finger at too many hours at my day job… Lena’s escaped. Without Alex. The “then” chapters are all about Lena adjusting to her new life, learning the rules, learning the skills, learning to live. Once she and the others in the resistance reach some measure of safety, she’s sent off to live yet another life – one of infiltration. In this “now,” Lena has to get close enough to the DFA (for Deliria-Free America) to find out what they’re planning. The DFA’s founder, Thomas Fineman, is pushing for everyone to get the cure, including those the scientists have refused to treat – those with severe illness, and babies who may be too young to survive the procedure. Never mind the risks involved.Thomas’ play revolves around his son, Julian. Eighteen years old, Julian has not received the cure, because he has cancer. At eighteen, Julian can – and does – request the cure. But does he really want it? Or is this just a ploy to gain support from an unsuspecting public?Pandemonium is aptly titled. This is no longer just a story about a world where you’re cured of love, this is now a story where that cure is intricately woven into politics and plots, government and resistance, and the pawns and Generals caught up in its revolution. And I can’t even tell you what I didn’t like about it, because it’s majorly spoiler-ish. *sigh*This one’s for all dystopian fiction fans out there. You will not be able to put this down once you start reading, and holy moly does Oliver deliver a SURPRISE!!! at the end. I CANNOT wait for Requiem! Is it Spring 2013 yet?drey’s rating: Excellent!
