Demon’s Curse is Alexa Egan’s debut where paranormal meets historical romance, with fey and shifters at odds with each other. Well, actually, where the fey think the shifters are all dead, and humans are none the wiser. From a long-ago war, four shifter soldiers suffer under a fey curse. Banished from their clans, they’re alone by choice and necessity. Until one of them dies, leaving a grieving human behind.Demon’s Curse is an interesting read. The hero (and his fellow cursed-Imnada) are a sorry lot — they’ve lost everything, after all, and there’s no end in sight for this purgatory they’re in. And yet, duty demands that they make sure no knowledge of the Imnada spread. Classic case of loyalty to those who’ve written you off…Mac (one of the remaining three, and hero dude in this story) eventually learns that 1. Bianca (the human) doesn’t know anything, 2. Adam (the dead) figured out how to remove the curse before he died, and 3. someone’s bent on killing the four of them — one down, three to go — but who? And why?I enjoyed the characters, though Mac’s a bit too tortured-soul for my taste. Bianca’s complicated, and almost a bit too rash in her actions. They’re lovely together though, which makes this a dang good romance. The secondary characters are varied and not always supportive, which gives the story flavor. The plot flows smoothly. The only thing I didn’t like much was the villain — too much repetition in action/thought/dialog. Overall, this is a pretty good debut and a nice introduction to the world of the Imnada.drey’s rating: Pick it up!
