Jane lives in tiny Rockabill, Maine – and has always been that girl. The girl whose mother appeared suddenly, stark naked. The girl whose mother then disappears, never to be seen again. The girl whose best (and possibly only) friend drowns while trying to save her from the ocean – not knowing that Jane is an excellent swimmer… Yes, Jane is the girl who’s never quite fit in with the other residents of her little village. Then one day Jane finds a body, and finds out that her world isn’t quite as it appears. Apparently she’s half-selkie – which makes her a halfling in this world where the pure-blooded supernaturals consider halflings to be just as bad as – if not worse than – humans. Which isn’t so different from being that girl in Rockabill, is it?But with this eye-opening discovery comes a scary one as well – somebody out there is killing halflings, and it looks like Jane’s next on the list. You think a girl would get some time to adjust to being more-than-normal before you kill her, but hey, there’s no accounting for taste in villainy…I like this world that Nicole Peeler’s put together for us (& Jane!). And I love Jane – she’s so vulnerable, so adorable, so nice, you would never imagine that she has the backbone or the cojones that show up when things get rocky. And yet she has these totally snort-inducing thoughts that come out more-than-occasionally… Of course, said snort-inducing thoughts are invoked more often than not about a certain yummilicious vamp – and are downright deliciously naughty. If you like your urban fantasy with humor sprinkled liberally all over it and a plot that’ll keep you rooting for the heroine, then give Jane True a try – go pick up Tempest Rising.drey’s rating: Excellent!
